I joined TikTok in the Fall. Let’s just say, when you watch several dozen videos of Gary Vee telling you to get on a platform that has the potential to surpass Instagram, you create an account on TikTok.
I started uploading videos in October, and honestly, really had NO idea what content to post.
If you’re not currently on the platform, let’s just say that at first glance, it’s very overwhelming. Videos with people dancing. In cosplay. Performing mini skits. Sharing personal stories (the good, the bad and the ugly).
But don’t let that intimidate. Today is the day to create an account on TikTok.
When I first joined, I tried a little bit of everything, just like a kid in a candy store. After posting a few dozen videos, I started to get traction and then one video blew up. I posted a clip offering advice on how to negotiate your salary, and basically it caused a firestorm.
A lot of people agreed with my tips. And there were a lot who said that asking for more money was greedy, and that a company would rescind the job offer. Either way, it got people talking and it helped my video go viral!
Right now that video has 714,000 views and 49,000 likes! I would never get these level of reaction on other social media platforms. So while I still post on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, I’m really focusing on increasing my TikTok following. And it is currently approaching 5K!
And there are a TON of professionals on the platforms. Doctors. Lawyers. Police Officers. Teachers. They’re having fun, but they’re also sharing tons of useful and helpful advice.
Since my salary video went viral, I’ve created more content that focuses on career and media and general advice on “adulting.” And so far for me, it’s working.
As we’ve heard, with the ever-changing algorithm on Facebook and Instagram, I’ve welcomed TikTok into my world with open arms.
If you’re looking for a platform with a higher organic reach to increase your profile, business and even revenue, then it’s time to create an account on Tiktok.
Let me know if you’re already on the platform, or if you join after reading this, would love to hear what you think and what your niche might be on the app. Comment below!
